Biography

Inertia began performing 1993. Starting in Houston at Mahogany Café and relocated to Atlanta, performing in all the major poetry venues: Yin Yang, Morehouse College, Barnes & Noble, Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University and Kaya. She began blazing the open mic trail in August of 2001 as the featured poet at Barnes & Noble in Houston. Her momentum built as she performed at the Renaissance Entertainment’s “Hollywood in Houston” award show, receiving the “Love Jones Poet of The Year” award. Destined for stardom, Inertia opened for neo-soul artist N’Dambi. Hours later she was featured in the “Hot Girls of Poetry”. As a professional performer, Inertia performed at Majic 102- special event. She was also one of the first poets to perform in Rodeo Houston 2002. As the headliner for The Pop-Up Poetry Spot (TPPS) – which received a three-page write up in The Houston Chronicle, Inertia has taken spoken word to all new dimensions. A complete artist, Inertia was a panelist in the Music World Music “Omni Conference” as a representative for the spoken word community. She is the winner of the MCA Records - Poetry Contest. In June 2002 she released “MOMENTUM” which was the first poetry CD from Houston.

MOMENTUM is in rotation on KTSU “THE CHIOCE” 90.9 JAZZ radio station. Inertia’s range is awesome. This range was demonstrated as a featured act for the Black Fashion Expo in July 2002. Her spiritual poetry is as moving as her erotic and political works. She has released her first book Predigested Sensationalism- Mental Babyfood in August 2003.Inertia is currently exploring the music world as a songwriter, vocalist and musician. The success of MOMENTUM and Predigested Sensationalism opened the door for Inertia to open for Kindred-Family Soul in December of 2003. Inertia began her first tour Spring 2004 in Jamaica starring on "Lyrically Speaking" Hosted by Muta Barukka. Shortly after returning to the states Inertia released her second CD "A Poet" which she toured on the east coast with stops through New York, New Jersey and Maryland. One the east coast tour was complete she released her second book "At Last" Poetry by Inertia.

2005 began with a bang as "Biscuit Jones" featured Inertia in their set for Matt Levine on FOX 26 "FOX ROX" series. The year continued to be successful for Inertia as she made Houston 2005 slam team. That's right, Inertia entered the arena of National Poets. Once home in Houston the "Destiny" album was released with much success. She began this tour in the west cost. California was amazing! She performed for the Pan African Film Festival.

What an exciting year 2006 was as Inertia reconnected with her home base. Texas missed her and once she returned home there were a great deal of local spots that requested her presence. Once again she made the National Slam team for Houston and boy did she show out. Coordinating and hosting a very successful benefit for battered women Inertia continued to support charitable causes. She was chosen for the Kings and Queens of Poetry, as the slam champion Inertia was the flashlight poet of every slam set.

2007 was the year of more charity events which took her as far as Spokane Washington (which by the way is a surprisingly cool place). Energized and ready for the next step. Inertia is currently working on the third CD "Mega-Pixels" that will be release summer of 2008.
